Bastille Day is July 14 every year, marking the day the fortress at Bastille was stormed during the French Revolution. It’s a big deal in France, but tomorrow you can have a very French day here in Seattle if you are so inclined. Here are some ideas that will keep you wining and dining like a Parisian all day (and night) long.

You can start at Le Panier down in Pike Place Market  for your croissant and coffee. We know, we know, it’s not very cocktail-ish of us, but feel free to bring down some Cognac to slip into that latte, eh? The smell of this place alone has us on our knees every time we walk by, not to mention loosening our belts.

For lunch, mosey on down to Le Pichet for a plate of Charcuterie and a glass of Chenin …


The McGinn Plan

It wasn’t that long ago that former Mayor Greg Nickels was waging war in an attempt to end nightlife in Seattle as we know it. Between his ridiculously expensive “sting” operation against bartenders and bouncers that cost the taxpayers thousands of dollars (read here for that story), and introducing retroactive, punitive noise ordinances and draconian laws governing music venue business licenses, it seemed he was hell bent on destroying our music and bar culture forEVER.  We find it deeply satisfying that for one, all of the charges that came from his “sting” operation were ultimately dropped and two, his attempts to smother this industry ended a resounding thud as his ass landed out in the street after the last mayoral election.

Last week, new mayor Mike McGinn put forth a plan called the Seattle Nightlife Initiative that is almost a rebuttal …
